officially corona scared (71/365d)

stopped by school in the morning, to check in on a tantrum "situation" that felix had yesterday. the teacher had to send the post-heft home with theodore yesterday because felix had refused to take it. brian met on the way back and we did some little chores around the house. we didn't have our wednesday date and nina comes over for coffee.

the corona virus craziness started today..... everything is getting cancelled right and left.  theodore complained that it was the “Dang blasted corona virus” ...... Felix on the other hand said they played a "corona virus game" at school, which was a like tag with two people being "it" and if you touch someone and shout "corona" that kid had to fall down dead and then two other kids could bring them back to life. freeze-tag with a rather morbid side.

brian took the kids to judo and found the landessportzentrum closed until further notice. so he went to the playground, and i met them there picking up my bike from the shop. another 140dollars for another year of awesome bike riding.

i convinced them to try the last few minutes at asp, where theodore and i (together) played the "austria" monopoly.... so cute, you can buy places in vienna (the most expensive) and linz. theodore didn't know anything about monopoly, but i think it's nearly time for that one.

headed out today to a rehearsal with the buffaloes. it went ok, but i didn't fix some problems from last rehearsal - i'm embarassed to say i had forgotten all about them in the mess of being sick.

It's been weeks since I baked any bread, and today i started sourdough for the first time in a long time..... and it's still alive.... i'm so happy

theater is over for the month (70/365d)

It wasn't an early rehearsal, only 10am, but i was mighty tired getting there, to practice the fuchs duos with Thomas... it went very well, we're looking forward to thursday, although we really haven't had enough time to prepare, since i've been sick. i finally feel like we know the stuff very solidly.

i finished reading that atomic habits book and then took felix to jacky's house to play with zorah, and we sat in the sun with baby Vito and had a nice quiet time.

Brian was at choir where the talk of the evening was the big news that the opera/theater/orpheum has cancelled all shows until april due to coronavirus. seems a bit of an overreaction...... i guess in retrospect, the last konigskinder and the last kalif storch has already taken place. we were all a bit disappointed to realize that.

one-on-one time with henry is a great thing (69/365d)

My lesson with Elke was postponed a few hours so I got to make a new wikipedia page for justus weinreich. yay more viola power on wikipedia.

Early in the morning, Centa left for Salzburg again, for the first time in over a month. Henry had not gotten to say goodbye to her properly last night because he had been busy with a temper tantrum about who got the "best" ruler.

So after I had a lesson with Elke I headed into town and picked Henry up from his organ lesson, and then he and i hung out at a coffee shop and had soup (he liked it so i even ordered him some!) and made ruler/compass drawings.  we had so much fun!

When it was time for chorus we found Brian and Felix there, and we fixed it so that the three of them could walk home together afterwards so Brian and I got a nice walk home together.
tulips by evening work light
did a bit of blog-updating and talking to labeeby and nick in the evening.... (how do i get so behind on updating this stupid thing? maybe the atomic habits book that i'm reading can help with that...)

magnificent men and their flying machines (68/365d)

So happy to find a note from the coffee fairy
turns out there's a secret decalking procedure they deliberately leave out of the delonghi manual
not cool
but very cool that centa got the info from ingrid
and...
...put it in the manual
Wonderful reading morning, where I read nearly all of the Fantastic Mr Fox (a book I don't particularly like, but nobody asked me) aloud, except for 3 chapters in the middle where I fell asleep on the floor. still not all the way recuperated! We waited at home until Manuela arrived to drop off some stuff for temporary storage on her way out to darmstadt.

Then we headed to the seifenfabrik to see beautifully crafted models of DaVinci inventions. Brian ran there and we took the bus. He beat us by quite some time. We looked at everything once quickly and then our favorites in more detail.

Brian tries his hand at flying in place
Henry found his model
marbles represent water, how pretty
We went to eat at "parks" quickly before Theodore and Henry had to dash away to Konigskinder ... they had to leave extra early because there was a women's day demonstration which meant the trams couldn't go about town. We watched the parade/protest/rally/demo start, and march past us, waving banners in a very organized (and comically lethargic) way.

what will i do without my coffee machine? (67/365d)

Early morning short rehearsal of Piazola's Libertango arranged for 5 violas, preparing for an upcoming viola concert that I've played in since I've known Elke.

Before I even left i had a phone chat with pauli and ingrid, who is back from thailand, and who told  stories like about papa speaking from the fridge over skype because mama's laptop overheats easily there. i found that quite funny.

Manuela comes over to see the kids ..... i made her coffee, but the coffee machine was weirdly broken - only a drop at a time, and it had nothing to do with grinding or coffee amount. i was not pleased! Regardless, it was a gorgeous spring day and we sat in the sun on the bench and drank our very strong very slow-brewed coffees and watched the kids play (and fight about) soccer. She brought gifts for all of them in honor of Theodore's recent birthday.
goodbye selfie on the stairs
In the evening quintet had a long rehearsal planned, but this time it was Irmtraud who nearly passes out.... and we stopped early. Who will be next?

i missed yoga so very much! (66/365d)

My first yoga class from the VolksHochSchule at the ArbeiterKammer ..... I go with Brigitta and her friend Barbara (who also lives on the gg) ... when i got there the teacher seemed familiar, and then i realized she had one taught my favorite yoga lady anne's class when she had just finished her training, and she had been very nervous. i asked her about that, and she said that had been her first class ever. i still don't really like her style that much, but that doesn't mean i can't get lots out of the class. it just made me miss anne, because of course, with the same training they say a lot of the same things, only for whatever strange reason, Anne's way is better. With her, at some point in every session, everybody in the room spontaneously laughed. Brigitta and her friend were very impressed that I already knew the yoga teacher - but Graz is just really really small!

The bike ride home was in sleet and freezing rain, and I got home and somehow thought the rain on my hair and face looked super cool.
but it doesn't really
i was exhausted though - I'm not really quite better yet, so i slept the afternoon away, and woke up when theodore and henry got back from their stadtegg orchestra rehearsal, just in time for bedtime.

dr. manuela (65/365d)

Inspired by yesterday's lesson, I did lots and lots of Reger practicing in the morning.

Today Manuela defended her thesis (spoiler alert: highest possible marks, so yay, wow, admiration, impressive) ..... i went early to help with any setup but the setup was pretty much already all done. we listened to a half hour of defense and an hour of questions, and waited outside 5 minutes for the reviewers' deliberation. Then champagne and buffet for all.

fullest defense ever
Dinner afterwards with the best and brightest at Thomawirt. We stayed nice and long and everyone was in a very good mood, and the conversations took every possible twist and turn. It was nice to finally be out again after weeks of being sick and in bed by 9:30.....
