happy birthday, klaus! (182/365a)

something's gotta give. with a day like yesterday i ended up being particularly unmotivated to do anything today. the big kids were at boys day with fritz and felix and brian went out shopping. i just lay around and snoozed. :)

then all together, we were off to the salonorchester conert, where i did photos, and the kids took turns making noises in the front row. this was irmtraud's surprise birthday party for klaus. it was funny to watch it dawn on him as he looked over the audience and saw family members from far away that he hadn't expected to see.

we stayed for buffet and wine and more music. we got little coloring books to draw "the story of klaus" ... we'll see how they feel about our 10am rehearsal tomorrow ;)

waiting patiently for the concert to start...

salzburg (181/365a)

felix crawled into my bed not that much before my alarmclock went off... yay snuggles

biked like crazy to get to the rendezvous point by 5am. everyone else got there at 5:20. brrr... cold.

drove and drove and drove, set up, played and played and played. the mozarteum is super beautiful inside. we were all a little punch drunk and sleep deprived, but the audience liked us. eventually, in the early afternoon, we finally got some food.

drove and drove and drove, ending up at the next rehearsal. love doing music all day. (still hate waking up) ..... exhausting but ultimately awesome day for me.

setting an alarm (180/365a)

one of those mornings that feels productive but there's nothing super special to show for it. mostly just practicing and cleaning.
in the afternoon, we took spontaneously looked after felix's friend arthur
...and henry started a very diverse kindergarten ;)
and in the evening manuela came over while i put the kids to bed. we had a quiet just-the-two-of-us dinner, and i cooked for tomorrow..... have to be up early for salzburg. already laid out all my clothes and assundries for a hopefully quick and easy departure.

eww... 3:55am

choruxplosion (179/365a)

last day of chorus for felix for a while. he threw a big enough tantrum that we won't go back. sad about that, but then again, he's only four and the school year start has been strenuous for all of us.

i also took pictures of felix crying but i like this one of ro better.
i was so upset by chorus i didn't bring anyone to gymnastics, marched them all home, and canceled a dinner party with jackie and andi. when i brought ro back to them they gave me dinner to bring back with me.

all in all the evening was super fine. early bedtime, brian went swing dancing. nina and i stayed up chatting. cheers!

four men in the kitchen - the new reality show (178/365a)

after my early-morning viola lesson brian and i had a lovely little "date"... we didn't need to go out to eat. instead we just had some more parasols and fresh bread. for dessert we walked to akdag in the rain and bought yogurt which we then ate with romanian honey. <3 we practiced some lindy, trying hard not to hit our head on the ceiling light fixture.

found these four cute people making banana bread on my way to yoga... unfortunately, yoga's moved to thursdays so i came back. fortunately i got my story/snuggles with felix before i went to rehearsal.

sock-scarf on sporgasse (177/365a)

spent the morning with renate talking generally about menstruation among other things. her theory: creativity cycle.

dinner was delicious... fried parasols and farmer's market vegetables shared with ronja and her parents. vegan. gluten free. everyone is invited.

the kids went to choir all on their own.

lindy hop lesson with brian tonight, where we really worked our thighs since we had to practice hulking like an orangutan for 2 hours just basic steps.
on the way home, we saw a 300 dollar designer scarf made out of socks. i had carried my camera around all day for nothing, until i left for swing with brian. so sadly we used his cell phone. this was the best it could do, even with "exposure correction"

erntedank (176/365a)

Today there was much partying and celebration. We made up for all our social laziness and sick days all in one.

First Theodore and Henry sang at the erntedank gottesdienst with their choir. i got to enjoy my own quite coffee and jazz musak at a cafe with wifi during their rehearsal and warmup. i was still feeling quite congested and ill but i enjoyed watching them.

ingrid's neighbor had more figs that she wanted us to steal, so we all went there to get them, and ended up with bowls and bowls full of perfectly ripe juicy delicious figs. then we stayed for coffee and crossword puzzles and sudokus while the kids played amongst themselves.

While getting ready for La Boheme with Theodore, Nina and Phil surprised me with a gigantic box of parasol mushrooms they found, and another box of the world's biggest apples. Right before we walked out the door, Felix did a "show" for us... I love his shows. :)

The opera was delightful, we saw a great many friends and acquaintances there, and had 6th row seats. It was beautifully designed: each second was pretty to look at. I cried at the end, even though the story is so very silly and facile. Theodore stayed awake for the whole thing and laughed out loud at a baguette swordfight (clever!) and at the disorganized bowing at the end.

Went out for a glass of wine with Manfred to an entirely child-inappropriate smoky bar, but what else is open sunday night at 9pm? One glass and then we were on our way home.

Was the evening over? No, it was not! We got Theodore into his pajamas, said good night, and then off we went to Jacky and Andi's house to play Carcassonne, at the end of which they presented us with a giant bag of eierschwammerln.... If it's after midnight does it still count as today?

we are so lucky!
